On September 15th

2012, Vegetable filed harvest in Ulaankhus, Zastap and Sogog kindergartens and Sogog school had finished successfully end of last week!
On September 15 local harvest “ The Green Land “competition to give courage and to increase number of interests between organization and community was held at the Ulaankhus sum. This competition was organized by local government ,ADRA and SSN NGO which have being implemented the green project at this territory. They participated with various planted vegetables , planted trees and berries at their garden. Local governor , gardeners and other representatives of NGO’s visited at the community and organizations’ vegetable filed and tree gardens. Finally under the discussion of judge the local governor Mr.Tachken was handed awards to this year’s hard working winner gardeners. Community gardens and organizations which awarded first and second prizes, have run the green projects under the support of SNN NGO since 2009.
Greenhouse fruits are still growing well.
   

 

Last week, harvest of School garden started.

Sogog school children are helping to harvest. It is a good opportunity for them to see where vegetables come from and how they are grown.
SNN NGO gardeners Mr. Zukhai and Mr. Kenjeby as well as Sogog School accountant are weighing the potato harvest.

Sogog kindergarten garden field harvest also started last week. Cucumbers continue to be harvested almost daily to provide nutritious snacks for the school children.
New vegetables planted this year grew successfully!
SNN volunteer taught dormitory and kindergarten cookers how to cook and use new vegetables for food. Children also liked to eat these delicious vegetables. Yummy!
New education year started on the 1st of September. Local governor and SSN NGO organized opening ceremony to give welcome and to give courage to new and old students. Mr Tavis, mayor of Sogog bagh and SSN NGO board members gave a report to the community about implementing SNN projects and also congratulated the students. It is the only opportunity for all of the community to come together after a long summer time. All of the nomadic herdsmen families moved and separated to following the pasture. Now they have returned to begin the school year and to prepare for winter. After the speeches, young students sang the Mongolian national anthem and grandmothers made a "shashu"!
During the celebrations, children participated in foot races, wrestling and horse races!
At the end of the days celebrations, winners were awarded by SNN NGO and Local governor !
Kindergarten, elementary and secondary class teachers were given calendars donated by Mr.Geert Postma for the new education year.
Thanks to Netherland donors the Sogog kindergarten winter green house is being constructed and should be ready for planting very soon.

 Wow ! So nice to see Seabacktonberry trees were planted at the Sogog school vegetable field in 2009 , starded to give fruits starting this year!!!  Aspens and will willows are at the Sogog school field.
   
   
   
 Other vegetables are growing well
   
   
 The fruits zucchini, eggplant, watermelon, cucumber and  tomatoes,   which replanted inside greenhouse, are growing well ;however, most of fruits were eaten by mice. It is so nice to see growing fruits and communities are so happy to see replanted seeds and rest fruits are growing well!:).They were so sad when they saw the fruits were eaten by mice! Now, they are smiling

 Two days work shop was held at  the Ulaankhus kindergarten for cookers and to other interests about how to jar and dry radishes, bok choy, black turnip, spinach, leek and…etc:)

 Zastap vegetables are good growing and cucumber harvest are picking up!!!

Finally, in 3 years we so seabuckthorn, at the garden of Nomads families in Sogog.

     
 Zastap Kindergarten greenhouse cucumbers are in full bloom and producing many cucumbers! However, the mice are eating some of them L Mr.Kadirbek, the new head of Zastap military, is learning about the green projects from those who have experience with growing vegetables.
   
 These two gardeners, Zukai and Rakhat are thinning the carrots in the Sogog Kindergarten field.  Some of the trees are growing very well, like the ones in the photo!
   
 Mrs.Bybygul  is happy to see the first seabuckthorn berries on the trees she planted 4 years ago.  There are many berries on the trees which will make nice jam, juice or simply an afternoon snack!
   
 Family gardens provide nutritious vegetables grown right at home.  Some neighbours have divided a large space for 5 gardens, one for each family. This way, they can help each other water and learn about how the plants are growing.  Some families also plant grasses for their animals.
   
 Some new vegetables and some familiar vegetables – Radishes are growing well, and people are starting to wonder what they should do with these red things!  Potatoes are growing in rows between these children who are learning from their family garden how these common vegetables are made.
   
 More trees planted in family gardens looking to be in very good condition!  The rain in July certainly helped them grow many leaves.  
   
 One of the local carpenters in Sogog built a food dryer so that we can preserve some of the green leafy vegetables by drying. We will try this with bok choy and spinach.

The Nohoit Summer Camp will run for 24 days forherdsmen children who are ages 5-7

   
 The Nohoit Summer Camp will run for 24 days forherdsmen children who are ages 5-7. These children will enter the elementary school for the first time in September. The camp is located in the country side where SSN NGO sets up a traditional ger as the classroom.
   
A carpenter’s training room is being built in the Sogog School! A section in the main entrance of the school was divided into 2 floors to accommodate this room.   
   
Growing vegetables requires some hard labour!   These threeguys spent the day weeding the potato fields in the hot sun. In order to aerate the soil and allow water to percolate easily,the top layer of the greenhouse soil is aerated by hand.
   
Sogog Kindergarten Greenhouse has its first cucumber of the season!  These diligent kids are helping to water the many cucumber plants.  Gardener Zuhai is receiving new materials for the greenhouse – water cans, a thermometer and string for typing the cucumber plants.
   
Replanting some of the rows that the mice snacked on.  And three days later…..zucchini sprouts!
   
   Bok Choy is growing very well!  We are trying different methods of preservation by jarring and drying.  This is a vegetable we have not grown before or used in our cooking, so we are trying new things!

Balbobek kindergarten will have winter green house soon!

Last week, under the Sogog community and SSN NGO board members’ discussion a place where the winter greenhouse will be built , was selected and the field works had started. J. Tabis , mayor of the 4th bagh and Kh.Lena president of SSN NGO and S.Kulshash , head of Balbobek kindergarten expressed their gratitude to all donors and Mr. Geert Postma be half of Sogog community.

Next week Zastap and Ulaankhus kindergarten vegetables will be planted.  
The 4th bagh mayor  and SSN NGO board member J.Tabis  and SSN NGO local gardeners had meeting  with community. They discussed  and talked the new kind of nutrition seeds about how to plant and how important to grow them for their health and some kind of gardening tools which will be distributed to them by SSN NGO.
